As provincial politicians returned to Queen’s Park last week for the first time since mid-September, opposition members say they'll push the government on health care and housing.
MPP Michael Mantha (NDP, Algoma-Manitoulin) challenged the government for not giving those two areas the priority he said they deserve.
“That should be the top priority. Why isn’t the government concerned with the crisis that they created within our health care system,” Mantha said in an interview with CFNO's Al Cresswell.
“There is the lack of doctors in Northern Ontario and the lack of nurses, and lack of RPN's, and PSW’s, and home care and so on. This is really puzzling that the government is not making this a priority.”
The MPP was also critical of how the Ford government plans to solve the housing crisis. In his opinion, jeopardizing current legislation that protects the environment is not the way to go.
“Over the course of the week we talked about housing. Unfortunately, the process that this government wants to follow through, will hamper and take away some of the legislation and protection that are there from our land authorities," Mantha said.
"In order to move the process forward and build houses faster, taking away our environmental responsibilities, protecting our wetlands is certainly not the way to move forward."
