Marathon Community Services and Recreation releases public swim policy

Marathon Community Services and Recreation, (MCSR) decides to follow Ministry of Health recommendations.

MARATHON: The Township of Marathon informed its residents on Oct. 21, that it will be adopting the Ministry of Health’s recommendations for their swim admissions policy at the Marathon’s Port Hole community pool.

The Township has decided to implement the Ministry recommendations in order to provide its residents with the most enjoyable and safe swimming conditions.

Therefore, residents who wish to use Marathon’s Port Hole Pool need to be aware of the following admission standards.

  • For children six years of age and under, the children must be supervised by and adult who is a minimum of 16 years of age and who must maintain direct supervision within arms reach.
  • They must stay within comfortable personal standing depth.
  • Patrons between the ages of seven to nine, who pass the facility swim test may be admitted without caregiver supervision.
  • Patrons between the ages of seven to nine, who DO NOT pass the facility swim test must be accompanied and supervised by an ADULT.
  • Patrons ten years of age and older may enter the pool without caregiver supervision.

MCSR has also adopted the following Ministry of Health recommendations for groups and birthday parties.

The same adult/child ratios apply for groups and birthday party rentals and private rentals, as in place for the adult and child ratios described above.

Finally, MCSR has also listed the guidelines for their facility swim test as follows:

  • Patrons must be able to swim one length of the pool using an efficient and recognizable stroke.
  • Must show one minute surface support.
  • Swim tests can be done during a public swim with a caregiver present.
