Marathon Fire and Emergency Services responds to call

Inspect and clean furnace annually to keep safe.
Marathon fire

MARATHON -- Marathon Fire and Emergency Services are urging residents to inspect and clean furnaces annually.

Fire crew responded to a call for smoke over the weekend in a two-storey residential home in Marathon.

The occupant was able to get her family outside to safety and call 911 without injury.

The smoke in the residence was caused by the furnace circulation fan that had stopped blowing air through the duct work.

Fire officials say fortunately, there was no damage to the home from the dust burning off the ductwork and furnace.

It's important to have your furnace inspected and cleaned annually to ensure proper working order.

Smoke alarms were present and operational.
