Marathon Fire Department Fill the Boot event raises $1500

Marathon Fire Department held its third annual Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy.

MARATHON—The Marathon Fire Fighters, (MFD) participated in the 3rd Annual Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy and raised $1500.00.

The Town of Marathon acknowledged the hard work and dedication by MFD who continue to hosting this event for such an important cause.

The event was held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Canadian Tire and at the local Marathon Centre Mall.

Fire Chief Earl Grigg, shared how six fire fighters came out to run the event. Chief Grigg commented stating that, “The event held was a four-hour event until 3:00 p.m. and raised $1500. For the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic Muscular Dystrophy Canada suspended this fund raiser,” stated Grigg.

This year made it possible for MFD to hold the fund raiser in person in their community. Chief Grigg added, “We plan to continue this in the coming years.”

Fire Fighters from across Canada have been partnering with Muscular Dystrophy Canada, (MDC) for over 67 years, and since that time, they have helped to raise over $100 million impacting the entire Canadian neuromuscular community.

It is these efforts by Fire Fighters across Canada that continues to make a difference in lives of so many Canadians and their families affected by neuromuscular disorders. Funds raised from Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy, helps purchase wheelchairs, hospital beds, leg braces, walkers, respirators and other life-changing equipment.

In addition, these events help raise awareness and promotes positive policy changes so that the investment made in research initiatives result in helping Canadians live longer and have access to needed treatment and therapies.
