Missing woman found deceased

The search for Geraldine Mawakeesic, 42, has resulted in a tragic end.

SANDY LAKE FIRST NATION — The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are sending their condolences to the family of Geraldine Mawakeesic, 42, after her body was found.

“The missing 42-year-old from Sandy Lake has been located deceased. No further details will be released at this time. OPP would like to extend their condolences to the family and a thank you to the public for their assistance,” the OPP Northwest Region wrote on their Facebook page.

Mawakeesic was reported missing around noon on Saturday, July 27, in Sandy Lake First Nation.

However, the last known contact was made with her in the evening of that same day.

NAPS informed Dougall Media that all further updates will be between investigators and family.
