Vince Ponka, Regional Communications Manager with NWMO, announced that its mobile unit will be visiting Thunder Bay on July 21, and July 22, 2022.

IGNACE--Vince Ponka, Regional Communications Manager with NWMO, announced that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, (NWMO) will be bringing its mobile learn unit to Thunder Bay.

In his recent news release Ponka stated that, "The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is looking forward to bringing our mobile learn more centre to Intercity Mall in Thunder Bay this week."

The NWMO mobile unit will be at the Intercity Mall parking lot on July 21 from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. and then again on July 22, from 10:00 a.m.-6 p.m.

"It is important to talk to people across Northwestern Ontario about the plan for the safe, long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological repository, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come," stated Ponka.

According to the announcement, the mobile learn more centre gives people the opportunity to learn more about this important project with the aid of 3-D models, displays and video content.

“Bringing our mobile learn more centre to communities across the north is an important part of our engagement activities,” said Vince Ponka, Regional Communications Manager with NWMO. “This mobile unit gives us an excellent place to talk to people about the safety of this project as well as the impact it would have on the region as a whole. Talking about bringing in 600 new jobs to the region is definitely exciting.”

The mobile learn more centre has already travelled for thousands of kilometres across Ontario this year and it has given the NWMO the opportunity to talk to hundreds of people and to answer questions about this project.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological repository, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.
