TERRACE BAY — A family's summer holiday trip has received an unwelcome interruption on their way home to Western Canada.

While passing through Terrace Bay on Monday evening, the driver of a minivan blew past a sign that shows the speed limit through the community is only 60 km/h.

OPP radar tracked the vehicle at 125 km/h, or more than twice the legal maximum.

According to police, the driver explained to an officer that the group was returning from a cross-country family vacation tour.

A 41-year-old man from Cochrane, Alberta was charged with stunt driving, had his vehicle impounded at his expense for 14 days, and lost his driving privileges for 30 days.
