Motorist caught driving nearly 60 km/h over speed limit

OPP laid charges after an incident on Highway 17 in the Marathon area.

MARATHON —Ontario Provincial Police are reporting another incident of high-speed driving on Highway 11/17.

According to an OPP post on Wednesday, officers conducted a traffic stop after radar showed a vehicle from the Greater Toronto Area travelling at 147 km/h on Highway 17 in the Marathon area.

The incident led to a charge of stunt driving and a severe trip interruption for a resident of Thornhill whose driver's licence is now suspended for 30 days.

In addition, the person's vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

Police posted a photo showing the car in the process of being hitched to a tow truck.
