NAPS nab trafficker after series of overdoses

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service arrested and charged one individual after an investigation into a series of overdoses in February.

MARTEN FALLS – After several overdoses were reported in the community on Feb. 29, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) launched an investigation into possible drug trafficking activity.

According to NAPS, narcan was provided to the victims, who were then transported to the nearby nursing station for further evaluation and treatment. All identified victims survived.

Further investigation resulted in police identifying a suspect connected to the drug trafficking activity.

A warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest.

On March 20, the accused was located and arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old from Marten Falls First Nation is charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused has been released from custody with conditions and a future court appearance date of July 20.
