ARMSTRONG, Ont. – The Ontario Provincial Police has appointed a new leader of its detachment in Armstrong.

The OPP announced Sgt. Nicole Haueisen will serve as the new team leader for the detachment in a statement Friday.

Haueisen served as a constable in the community beginning in 2020, and took over operational and administrative responsibilities for the detachment in February from Sgt. Tammy Bradley. She was promoted from Acting Sgt. on Thursday.

Haueisen previously worked in the OPP’s North East Region in detachments Hearst, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Cochrane, and Moosonee.

In a release, the OPP highlighted her experience in the north.

"Sgt. Haueisen has a wealth of experience working in the north and has been recognized as a leader within the OPP,” said chief superintendent Bryan MacKillop. “She is a very dedicated member and will continue to serve the residents of Armstrong and the surrounding area with pride, professionalism, and honour."

Haueisen was awarded the Jim Potts Award as part of a Provincial Liaison Team that assisted with multiple evacuations of Indigenous communities, the force stated.

Her work as a PLT member brought her to northern communities including Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Pikangikum, Summer Beaver, Deer Lake, and Poplar Hill.

In 2021, Haueisen was awarded the inaugural Monty Kohoko Award for her efforts in maintaining trusting relationships within northern Indigenous communities, the OPP stated.

"Sgt. Haueisen has already developed a positive relationship with Whitesand First Nation, and we are very supportive of her in this new role,” said Chief Allan Gustafson of Whitesand First Nation in a statement provided by the OPP.
