RED ROCK — Some trails are better left untravelled – at least for now.

The township of Red Rock has posted a notice to its Facebook page letting residents know the Nipigon River recreation trail will be undergoing maintenance starting today (July 29) until July 31.

The trail, which is open through all seasons and runs 10 kilometres long the shoreline of the Nipigon River, connects the Red Rock and Nipigon marinas.

The work being done involves painting the stairs and railings along the trail.

Michael Elliott, owner of Nipigon-based company Epic Adventures, said the Ministry of Natural Resources sent out student rangers to complete painting along the trail.

Epic Adventures, which evolved from “one-of-a-kind guided outdoor adventure tours” to trail construction, design, development, and maintenance cleared out brush along the trail ahead of the student rangers' arrival.

"Normally, we don't shut a trail down for when we're going through brushing - we let people use the trail - but they need to let the paint dry," Elliott said.

The Nipigon River recreation trail will reopen Aug. 1 barring any disruptions.
