One dead after weekend crash on Highway 17

A 64-year-old died after two-vehicle collision west of the Steel River Bridge on Saturday morning.

A serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 over the weekend claimed the life of a 64-year-old. 

Provincial police said the incident involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle happened just before 10:30 a.m. on Saturday west of the Steel River Bridge.

An occupant of the passenger vehicle died. Another person in that vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

The highway had been closed between Nipigon and Marathon for an extended of time on Saturday, but all lanes have since reopened.
