One new fire in Northwest region

One new fire confirmed in the Northwest region on Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest Region   

One new fire was confirmed in the Northwest Region by the late afternoon of Aug. 16. 

  • Nipigon 16 is located approximately 27 kilometres west of Geraldton. The 1.5 hectare fire is not under control.

Since the last update: 

  • Nipigon 15 was discovered in the evening hours of Aug. 15 near Masinabik Lake, approximately 23 kilometres southeast of Beardmore. The 0.7 hectare fire is under control.

The wildland fire hazard ranges from low in the southwestern portion of the region (Kenora, Fort Frances sectors) to moderate in central parts of the region (Sioux Lookout and Dryden sectors), progressing to high hazard as you move further east (Thunder Bay and Nipigon sectors).
