Ontario's COVID-19 small business relief grant nearing application deadline

Small business have until March 11 to apply for the Small Business Relief Grant.

TORONTO—The Government of Ontario reminds small businesses required to close or reduce capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions, are still eligible for the Small Business Relief Grant.

Application for this grant opened on Feb. 9, 2022 and runs until March 11, 2022. With this deadline fast approaching, eligible businesses that are part of the Ontario government’s designated list can apply to receive a grant of $10,000.

To receive the grant, a small business must meet specified criteria that includes:

  • Have been required to close due to public health orders that took effect at 12:01 a.m., Jan. 5, 2022.
  • Have had fewer than 100 employees as of Dec. 31, 2021
  • Have been an active business as of Jan. 14, 2022

The Ontario Government also states that eligible businesses that previously qualified for the Ontario Small Business Support Grant in 2021, and were subject to closure again on Jan. 5, 2022, have been pre-screened to verify eligibility. They may need to provide some additional information, but will not need to apply for the new program.
