MARATHON — OPP called for assistance from the Thunder Bay Police canine unit but failed to locate a motorist who fled on foot after disregarding a traffic stop Tuesday on Highway 17.
The search continued Wednesday, and police advised members of the public to ensure their residences and vehicles were locked securely.
Another driver involved in the incident was successfully apprehended.
OPP initially attempted to stop two vehicles travelling at high speed at about 1:30 pm Tuesday, but both motorists fled at what police described as "extremely high speeds."
In the interest of public safety, officers did not engage in a pursuit but located both vehicles a short distance away and arrested a 23-year-old man from the Sudbury area on multiple charges.
He's accused of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunt driving, using plates not authorized for a vehicle, flight from police, driving while under suspension, and failure to comply with a release order.
The man remained in custody pending a bail hearing in Thunder Bay on Wednesday.
It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in any incident where the case may not be followed through until a resolution in court.
