MARATHON — Provincial Police are advising residents to expect a large police presence as they continue to investigate a weekend homicide.
Police are still investigating the investigating the death of 39-year-old Charity Bittern-Moses, with 20-year-old Dallas Malley having been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
“What that means is that they're conducting follow-up, and they're conducting more extensive investigations with regards to this tragedy,” OPP Const. Matt Foster said on Tuesday.
Foster could not comment on what motivated the incident, saying the incident is still under investigation.
“We're thinking of the victim and the family of the victim during this unfortunate time," Foster said.
"As far as what's going on in a community as small as Marathon can be nerve-wracking for something as serious like this to happen. We just want to reassure that the OPP is doing everything they can to further investigate and to prevent something like this from happening in the future.”
The OPP's forensic identification services is collecting and evaluating evidence.
“Forensic identification service members are trained specifically to investigate the evidence,” Foster said.
A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in Toronto.
Malley was remanded into custody where he awaits his court appearance on Thursday.
