GREENSTONE—The Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is asking motorists and passengers to Lock It OR Lose It when it comes to their vehicles and valuables.

Their annual provincial Lock It OR Lose It campaign (#LockItOrLoseIt) is a project sponsored by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police in partnership with the Insurance Bureau of Canada and Accident Support Services International Ltd.

"Securing your vehicle and valuables makes sense year-round. But we know with summer fast approaching that would-be thieves are more likely to be out during this nicer weather. Don't be a victim. Lock it OR lose it." said provincial constable Brian Frost of the Greenstone OPP.

During the Lock It OR Lose It campaign, police officers and auxiliary officers will be out examining parked vehicles to make sure that they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view. They will place a small notice on vehicles checked indicating what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices are also to congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicles and therefore demonstrated that their owner did in fact: Lock It OR Lose It.

As an added note of caution, police also want to remind the public to report any and all instances of property crime including thefts from unattended motor vehicles.

The public can file a report by contacting the OPP Provincial Communication Centre's non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122 or through the OPP online reporting system, which is an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident.
