HORNEPAYNE—The Ministry of Health Ontario announced this week that approval has been received from Health Canada for the use of lower dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children aged six months to five years of age. The recommendation is that a two-dose series be administered at least eight weeks apart.
To answer some of the questions parents, and guardians may have the MHO reaffirmed that Health Canada has reviewed the scientific data in order to ensure that the vaccine is safe and that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks that any side effects of the vaccine may pose.
Porcupine Health Unit was pleased to announce today that appointments are now open for the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged six months to five years of age. Parents and guardians wishing to have their child vaccinated must make an appointment with the appropriate PHU office in their community.

PHU indicated that more vaccine clinics are being planned in their region over the next few weeks. Currently, the dates and locations for the COVID-19 vaccine clinics are as follows:
- Kapuskasing, Aug.4 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Hearst, Aug. 2 from 1-4 p.m.
- Hornepayne, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Parents and guardians are reminded that clinics will be held at all PHU offices.
According to the Ministry of Health Ontario, the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and provides protection against the virus.
