Police arrest suspects who fled RIDE checkpoint and then crashed

OPP say the vehicle fled from a RIDE checkpoint in Geraldton, then caused a collision before two occupants tried running from arrest.

GREENSTONE — Police eventually tracked down two suspects who attempted to escape a RIDE checkpoint.

Provincial police said a RIDE program was being conducted in Geraldton on Tuesday afternoon, when officers determined the driver of a vehicle was impaired.

Upon officers trying to take the driver into custody, the vehicle took off, police said, which then was involved in a collision.

During a second attempt to arrest the driver, the individual and a passenger took off on foot.

The two suspects were found and arrested a short time later.

No further information about the individuals, or what charges may be laid, was made available.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with may have been in the area and witnessed the incident is asked to contact the OPP.
