Police seek suspect in stabbing

Police are searching for a masked suspect after a man was seriously injured in a stabbing assault at the community’s baseball field early Sunday morning.

EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION – Police are turning to the public for help with an investigation into a recent stabbing assault in Eabametoong First Nation.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Police Service, in a release, said they learned of an assault just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31 at the community’s baseball field.

An adult male was found with injuries consistent with a stabbing.

He was taken to the community nursing station and later sent to Thunder Bay for further treatment of his injuries, which are believed to be serious.

The alleged assailant, believed to be an adult male, was dressed in black and wearing a ski mask at the time of the attack. He approached the victim at about 3 a.m. in the baseball field near a trail along the third-base line.

The suspect chased the victim before assaulting him, but the victim got away and made it to the nursing station. The suspect gave up the chase and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Police continue to investigated the circumstances of the incident and are looking for help identifying the suspect.
