Police seize $79K in cash following traffic stop

An Ajax, Ont. resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday.

NIPIGON -- Nipigon OPP seize $79,000 following a traffic stop on Highway 11/17.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, an officer was conducting a general patrol on Wednesday, June 22 around 2:30 p.m.along Highway 11/17 when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lane.

Police said after conducting a traffic stop, the officer discovered more than $79,000 in Canadian currency.

The currency was seized, along with the vehicle and two cell phones.

Police arrested and charged Keenan Dunkley, 27, of Ajax, Ont. with possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

The accused will appear before an Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon at a later date.
