HORNEPAYNE—If you are dreaming of building your dream home this year, and your property is not serviced by municipal sewers, the Porcupine Health Unit has an important reminder for you.

Builders who are building on property that is not serviced by municipal sewers will need to install a septic system to deal with the wastewater generated in your home.

The Porcupine Health Unit issues building permits for installing septic systems, including those installed in Unorganized Territory.

According to the Porcupine Health Unit, their inspection department, “Is involved with the installation of septic systems to ensure treatment of waste from toilets, showers, kitchen sinks, laundry, etc., meet the requirements of Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code. These private residences and commercial operations must have a daily sewage flow of 10,000 litres per day or less.”

They encourage the public to contact their local inspector today for more information and to get started on an application.
