HORNEPAYNE—Porcupine Health Unit is reminding Hornepayne residents and region that masks must still be worn in hospital-care settings.
The Health Unit expressed concern over the fact that Omicron is still circulating in the region and their case rates remain high. Although mask mandates are lifted in many settings, they recognize that many people will still not be comfortable without a mask just yet; and they affirm that this is OK. PHU voiced the thought that, "Masks are chosen to be worn by people because they want to continue to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19."
PHU strongly encourages the use of masks in public settings, especially for those who are at risk for a more severe illness from COVID-19 or those who live/work with those individuals. They see this as a personal choice. The Health Unit stresses that COVID-19 is still present in their communities and you can choose to wear a mask for as long as you wish to.
They also remind residents that even though wearing a mask is still a choice at this time, there are some places where masking is still required. Specifically, masks must be worn in: public transit, long-term care and retirement homes, health-care settings, shelters, jails, and congregate care and living settings, including homes for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Masking still remains a personal choice in the province. Porcupine Health Unit wants its community to keep this in mind.
