HORNEPAYNE—Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) supports a program developed to help keep seniors active. Known as “Stay on their feet”, (SOYF) is a regional strategy that supports healthy active aging for older adults.

This initiative aims at helping older adults stay active, stay independent and stay on their feet. The activities encourage physical activity, staying social, and stimulate the brain.

Stay on your feet wants older adults to participate in a variety of activities such as:

  • Singing, music, crafts, painting, drawing, dance, theatre, creative writing, photography and film, all which can help to reduce loneliness and social isolation.

According to the SOYF regional strategy, “Taking part in artistic activities has a positive affect on your health and well-being, while improving your memory, level of creativity, ability to solve problems, reaction time and ability to carry out daily activities.”
