Red Rock Fire Department training for real-life extrication

On Monday, Sept.12, Red Rock Fire Department held their Monday night training.

RED ROCK--The Red Rock Fire Department (RRFD) held their Monday night training which featured FDIC instructor from Code 4, Jason Defosse.

The training focused on extrication and also featured a member of the Nipigon Fire Department.

Defosse, offered hands on training on extrication in different hypothetical scenarios, and demonstrated the use of special equipment to remove a door from a vehicle in order to learn extrication techniques.

Defosse described the focus, " We're working as a team,” he stated as he guided the team through a hypothetical scenario and the process needed to complete the extrication. Defosse’s focus was to lead the fire fighters through multiple scenarios.

Scenarios regarding some types of extrication included:

  • Cars with roofs crushed down
  • Moose strike
  • Working around obstacles such a rocks
  • Fuel Leaks

Red Rock’s fire chief acknowledged Defosse for coming down to Red Rock to offer this training.

It was also announced by the RRFD, that local firefighter Trevor Appelkvist, will be instructing at next year’s 2023 Fire Con being held in Thunder Bay, ON.

According to RRFD seven members of their fire department attended this year’s 2022 Fire Con this past weekend.

The Department was grateful to the volunteer firefighters who offered so much of their time and energy to keeping their community safe.
