TERRACE BAY—Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDHS) high schools proudly celebrated student graduation and achievements the last week of classes, for June.
Each school’s graduation celebration was intertwined with a common theme, that being the amazing accomplishments of their graduating students, and the sense of pride that each student felt for completing their high school years, after four years of hard work, studying, inquiry and guidance from their teachers, parents and guardians.
Geraldton Composite High School celebrated their graduation June 23, when this years graduates gathered in their school gymnasium to celebrate their achievements. Throughout the school year several groups of students participated in skilled trades programs and were very successful in completing them.
Lake Superior High School students had what they described as a “Great celebration at the Terrace Bay beach following a graduation parade.” They thanked Mrs. St Louis for making two amazing cakes to share for the occasion. Numerous photos capturing the pride and excitement of each student who crossed the stage to accept their high school diploma were made available on the school Facebook page.
The graduating class for Manitouwadge High school had a special guest at their grad night. The school sent out a huge thank-you to Mr. Michael Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin who was a guest speaker at their ceremony. Manitouwadge students graced their stage as each accepted their diploma and with classmates also receiving scholarships and bursary awards. Graduates from Marathon high school can be proud of their achievements having experiences about the fact that their high school services communities of Marathon, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg and Pic Mobert First Nation, and is the second largest secondary school within SGDHS district. They developed a video to capture the ceremony and can be seen on the school’s Facebook page.
Throughout their graduating year Marathon High school Falcons took part in a variety of experiential learning programs and competed in several successfully completed skills trades programs. Marathon school services and community extended congratulations to their graduates.
For Nipigon-Red Rock graduates the day went smoothly with Mr. Carabott taking this year’s grad photos for the group. Students gathered outside their high school June 24, 2022 anxiously waiting the go ahead to enter their school gym where the ceremony took place.
Throughout the planning stages for each high school graduation ceremony, students and staff came together to rehearse and prepare for the event. Community individuals, groups, businesses and the Township itself each supported students by donating scholarships and bursaries to deserving students. Congratulations to each graduating student from each of the SGDSB high schools, who have been preparing for these graduation ceremonies throughout their high school years.
