GREENSTONE -- Municipality of Greenstone announced the closure of the Geraldton landfill site.
Residents are reminded that this will be taking place Dec. 31, 2021, and is necessary in order to comply with Environmental Compliance Approval A7004401 authorizing the operation of the Geraldton Waste Disposal site.
The site will be closed effective Dec. 31.
The municipality will be undertaking an Environmental Approval process to determine a new landfill site to service the greater Greenstone region.
This has required a continuous consultation process with key stakeholders.
Residents are reminded that alternate landfill sites are available at Longlac, Beardmore, and Nakina.
Any questions or concerns regarding this closure and the consultation process can be directed to the Municipality of Greenstone office.
Hours of operation for these alternate sites are as follows:
Longlac landfill is open Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Beardmore landfill is open Monday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Nakina landfill is open Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
