RED ROCK—Superior Catholic District School Board was pleased to share that the Rotary Club of Nipigon donated a Buddy Bench to St. Hillary Catholic School in Red Rock.
Brian Davis approached each of the schools in the district about purchasing a Buddy Bench as a way to strengthen the presence between the Rotary Club and the community at large, as well as to build a presence in each of the schools.
A Buddy Bench is designed to help students who at times may feel alone. To help address this problem Buddy Benches are placed on school playgrounds to encourage students to look out for one another, so no one feels left out, therefore promoting inclusion.
The Buddy Bench will be permanently installed in the back area at St. Hillary Catholic School. “Along with the Buddy Bench, the Rotary Club has also sponsored a Kindness Award that was presented at our year-end awards celebration,” said Deana Figliomeni, executive administrative assistant and communications officer.
Figliomeni shared that the Buddy Bench was officially unveiled following the St. Hillary Catholic School Awards ceremony.
Brian and Lee Davis were on hand along with student representatives from each class for the ribbon cutting.
A Buddy Bench was also donated to St. Edward Catholic School in Nipigon.
