MANITOUWADGE—Manitouwadge Fire Department wants the public to stay safe throughout the summer. Their safety tips this week highlight the safe use of BBQ’s and smokers.

Always make sure to only use what is recommended for your BBQ and smoker, propane, wood pellets gas or charcoal. They recommend that a fire extinguisher or garden hose be close at hand, and be sure to use your BBQ in a well-ventilated area.

Other tips included:

  • Ensure the BBQ or smoker is at a safe distance from any outdoor games or activities,
  • And never ever leave unattended while the unit is on.

Some municipalities do not allow open air burning, so it will be important to always check with your local fire department for questions, instructions and permit requirements.

Residents with questions regarding the safe use of these common summer appliances, or how to acquire a fire permit, should contact Manitouwadge Fire Department at--(807)826-3227 ext. 245 or their Administrative Assistant, Melissa at (807)-826-3227 ext. 243
