A full schedule is now available for the 2023 Mining Health and Safety Conference, being hosted by Workplace Safety North (WSN).

Taking place April 18-20 at the Holiday Inn in Sudbury, the theme is Evolution of Mining Safety: Past Reflections and Future Innovations. This year the organization is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the event.

The conference opens on April 19 with a talk by Michelle Cederberg, an expert in change, health and productivity, followed by a “state of the industry” presentation by Mike Parent, WSN’s vice-president of health and safety services.

Other guest speakers include Dr. Rumeet Billan, an expert in leadership, emotional resilience and mental health; Roy Slack, a director at Torex Gold Resources and Cementation Americas, who will speak to a 40-year history of safety shares; and Allan Kehler, a mental health advocate.

On Thursday, participants will have access to a number of technical presentations, which range in interest from risks in diamond drilling to using drones for safe mine inspections to the role of worker impairment in the workplace.

There will also be a tradeshow throughout the three-day event.

Workplace Safety North provides health and safety training and services to the mining and forest products industries, while its offshoot, Ontario Mine Rescue, trains mine rescue team members throughout the province.
