SCHREIBER -- The Township of Schreiber office of the director of operations, announced a notice of water disruption for the entire township Tuesday. It was indicated that this was to facilitate the completion of repairs at their water treatment plant.
Residents were encouraged to store water for consumption and close the main valve in their homes and to not attempt to use water between Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and when water will be turned on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
As a further precaution against hot water tanks draining and the elements burning out, the director also advised residents to turn off the power to their hot water tank.
Local residents can go to their breaker box in their homes and throw the breaker to the “off” position for the hot water tank.
Following the hours indicated when the water will be turned off, residents are asked to re-open the main valve in their home and to turn on a cold water tap only, letting it run for approximately three to five minutes. This is to flush any residue which may have been left in their water line upon completion of the work.
Once the pressure is restored to a home’s hot water tank, residents were told that they should turn the hot water on at any faucet and check that all the air is out of the lines.
Once the air is gone and the water is running smoothly, residents were instructed to turn the breaker back on.
The township director further indicated that if any resident should experience a disruption to their water service or discoloured water for an extended period after the times indicated for when the water disruption would occur, to phone 824-2711, ext. 230.
Following the planned outage, the Township will be on a Boil Water Advisory for one week. Residents are asked to bring their water to a rolling boil for a full minute and to continue boiling water for consumption until announcement of the rescinding are confirmed.
