A third day of searching is underway in an effort to find a missing plane in northern Ontario.

A Cessna 208, with two people onboard, was travelling from Nakina to Fort Hope on Tuesday afternoon and was reported overdue after it failed to arrive.

Maj. Trevor Reid, public affairs officer with Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton, said an air task force was struck on Thursday, which includes Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft, along with additional resources from the Canadian Coast Guard, OPP, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources

"This air task force is being centralized in Thunder Bay in order to concentrate our air resources closer to the actual search areas," Reid said. "This basically enables us to make most use of our time and fuel, enabling us to get more time on station, if you will, in order to find this aircraft."

The search began Tuesday, with Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton being notified about an hour after the plane was scheduled to arrive in Fort Hope. Search efforts that night were hindered by snowfall and low clouds, but resumed on Wednesday as conditions improved.

Reid said search efforts continued Wednesday night, with a Royal Canadian Hercules aircraft conducting visual and electronic searches, hoping to find an emergency beacon or anything else that could lead searchers to the plane.

On Thursday, resources involved included two Hercules aircraft, two Griffon helicopters, OPP and MNR helicopters, Canadian Coast Guard and a Civil Air Search and Rescue Association aircraft equipped with specialized search equipment and cameras, which also had spotters onboard Air Force aircraft to assist with local knowledge.
