Second person dead from Highway 17 crash near Nipigon last week

The two occupants of a passenger vehicle, a 61-year-old and a 48-year-old, have died after last week's two-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle

A second person is dead from a highway crash in the Nipigon area last week.

Provincial police on Monday said the second occupant of one of the vehicles, who had been taken to hospital with critical injuries, has since died. One person was earlier confirmed to have died.

The fatal incident happened on the afternoon of Nov. 29 on Highway 17 about 25 kilometres east of Nipigon, involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle.

Provincial police had said that a 61-year-old, now identified as Deborah Mills, was pronounced dead. The second person, 48-year-old Paul Ayers, died from his injuries while in hospital. Both were occupants of the passenger vehicle.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
