NIPIGON — Four months after a snowmobile collision in the Nipigon-Red Rock area, OPP have laid charges against an area resident.

On Feb. 5, 2025, police received a report from the Superior North EMS base at Red Rock about a collision near Sprucewood Road in Lyon Township.

The responding officers arrived at the scene, then followed the ambulance to the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital to continue their investigation.

Police said the patient suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

OPP sought a warrant to obtain a sample of blood that had been taken by hospital staff, and the specimen was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for testing.

The results revealed there was alcohol in the snowmobiler's system at the time of the collision.

OPP announced Wednesday that they have now charged a 22-year-old Red Rock resident with operating a vehicle while impaired, and operating a vehicle while having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

The accused is scheduled for a court appearance in Nipigon at a future date.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
