Southern Ontario driver charged with stunt driving

Motorist failed to stop for a construction flag-person on Highway 17 west of Marathon.

NIPIGON — Police say they have charged an aggressive motorist with stunt driving.

In a release issued on Saturday morning, OPP say at about 9:39 a.m. on Thursday, June 19 they received a complaint about a vehicle that did not stop for a flag-person in a construction zone on Highway 17, west of Marathon. 

Nearly two hours later the driver was stopped and the 78-year-old was charged with driving motor vehicle while performing a stunt, excessive speed and failing to obey a traffic control stop sign. 

The 78-year-old Brampton, Ont. driver also had their licence suspended for 30 days and their vehicle impounded for 14 days. 

OPP did not identify the driver. 

The accused was released from custody and will appear in court in Nipigon on Aug. 11.
