Speeding driver charged with refusal to provide breath sample

A Thunder Bay driver is facing charges after refusing to provide a breath sample.

NIPIGON -- A speeding Thunder Bay driver is facing charges following a traffic stop late Tuesday evening.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers conducted a traffic stop in Nipigon on Tuesday, Aug. 9 just after 9 p.m. for speeding 136 kilometres an hour in a posted 90 km/h zone.

Police said the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample.

The driver refused to provide a sample and was placed under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old, of Thunder Bay, has been charged with refusal to comply with demand.

The driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Nipigon on Sept. 13, 2022.
