Putting paper in a glass recycling bin can lead to strata council problems, a new civil resolution tribunal decision indicates.

GREENSTONE – The Municipality of Greenstones Spring Clean-up Event is scheduled to begin this month. This annual event allows residents in Greenstone to dispose of more oversized items along with regular curbside pick-up.

The 2022 event will be held during the following weeks:

  • Geraldton Ward: May 16 - May 20
  • Longlac Ward: May 24 - May 27
  • Beardmore, Nakina, Rural East and Rural West: May 30 - June 3

Greenstone’s ward office wants to remind residents that various items will not be excepted during this event due to the nature of the waste product.

The following items that are not accepted in the expanded curbside waste collection include:

  • Demolition materials (i.e. shingles, dismantled sheds, asphalt, and concrete)
  • Household hazardous waste (i.e. paint and fertilizers)
  • Felled trees

Waste items that are acceptable in the expanded curbside waste collection include:

  • Recyclables (i.e. scrap metal, appliances, electronic waste, and tires)
  • Household items (i.e. furniture and mattresses)
  • Yard waste

Refrigeration appliances with a Freon Tag must be marked accordingly; otherwise, those items will not be picked up. You can buy these tags at our Administration Office located at 1800 Main Street in Geraldton or any Ward Office.

Various Public Works equipment will be used to keep recyclable waste (electronics, tires, metals, appliances) separate. Once the collection has occurred, no other pickups will be conducted, so please be sure to have all items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular garbage day.

During the above-listed weeks (May 16 - June 3), landfill tipping fees applicable to Residential Waste will be waved at the Beardmore, Longlac, and Nakina landfill sites.

If you have any questions or need more information, please contact your ward office.
