NIPIGON— Grade 6 students are getting creative with bridge-building.
On February 22, 2022, the Grade 6 class at St. Edward Catholic Elementary School took on a STEM challenge that required them to build a bridge using some very different materials.
Each group was to build a bridge using 50 small marshmallows. Five big ones, and 100 toothpicks in total in order to see how many squares tiles their bridge can support.
Other key requirements included that the bridge had to:
- span a gap of at least 10 centimetres in length
- No part of the bridge could touch the table or floor between the books/boxes
- It had to be the same width as the cup they were using to support the tiles.
Needless to say, the class took the challenge very seriously and demonstrated how well they could use the STEM challenge to show their understanding of the task and successfully build their bridges.
