Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccine still the best protection from the virus

Porcupine Health Unit, (PHU) still wants its clients and area residents to stay up to date with their vaccines.

HORNEPAYNE—The Porcupine Health Unit, (PHU) wants its clients and residents in the area to stay up to date with their vaccine.

In their recent notice, PHU shared that like so many other health units in the region would agree, the bivalent booster is the best protection we have against current strains of COVID-19.

PHU explained that the bivalent vaccine triggers a strong immune response against the Omicron and the original SARS-CoV-2 virus strain.

For those who have been infected with COVID-19, PHU still recommends that you stay up to date with your vaccines. They indicated that according to NACI, the recommendation is that COVID-19 booster doses, including the bivalent vaccine, be offered at an interval of six months after a previous infection, or a COVID-19 vaccine dose. A shorter interval of three months, is recommended for individuals who are at a higher risk of severe illness from infection.
