Summer Reach Ahead program to give students a taste of high school

Students in Grade 8 wishing to experience what it is like to take a high school course and gain a high school credit can do so, by taking the summer reach ahead program offered by Superior-Greenstone District High School.

MARATHON—Students can experience what it is like to take a high school course by taking part in Superior-Greenstone summer virtual reach ahead program.

The summer program is for students in Grade 8 and is an online learning program. The course called Exploring Family Studies, is typically offered in high school.

The program runs from July 4, until July 22, two hours per day. The program is set up in such a way that student will learn through inquiry, and experiencing the high school curriculum, by exploring topics such as financial literacy and social justice. The bonus to taking this course, which is free to parents and guardians who wish to register their child, is that once their child completes the course, they gain a high school credit.

According to Superior-Greenstone District School Board, while in this reach ahead, Exploring Family Studies program, “Students will learn in an interactive online environment that will expose them to the high school experience. In this Exploring Family Studies course, students will sharpen their skills, meet new friends, and start school this fall with one credit towards graduation. Topics to be included are: healthy relationships, lifestyle differences, financial literacy and social justice - just to name a few!”

The program will offer learning opportunities focused on topics such as:

  • Healthy relationships
  • Lifestyle differences
  • Financial literacy
  • Social Justice

This reach ahead program will provide students with the opportunity to experience a high school course, to prepare for Grade 9.

The program is offered at no cost and students can register by contacting their school principal.
