A Superior-Greenstone District School Board trustee has been suspended for more than a year after an investigation into 11 allegations of breaching the code of conduct.
The board released a statement on Wednesday, announcing that Daniel Fairservice has been suspended for 14 months. The decision was made unanimously by the board at a special meeting on Monday.
“The investigation was carried out by a professional third party and the sanctions serve as a response to the significant differences in approach exhibited by Trustee Fairservice which were deemed detrimental to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the Board. In order to address these concerns, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board has provided the Trustee with a valuable opportunity for professional learning and development," director of education Nicole Morden Cormier said in a statement.
The board did not provide further details about the nature of the allegations.
In the news release, board officials said they remained optimistic that the sanctions and professional development will help Fairservice "gain the necessary
skills and insights to contribute positively to the future success of the School Board and the community served."
"The Superior-Greenstone District School Board firmly believes in the importance of ongoing education and professional growth for all of its Trustees," board chair Pinky McRae said.
"By providing this opportunity, the organization aims to support the Trustee in becoming a more effective and valued member of the Board. Furthermore, it reaffirms the commitment of the Superior-Greenstone District School Board to upholding the highest standards of governance and ensuring the best interests of students, parents, and the community are consistently served.”
Fairservice was elected to the board, representing the Manitouwadge ward, in last year's municipal and school board elections.
