TERRACE BAY— Superior Greenstone District School Board announced that the month of April is Neurodiversity month. All month long, schools within the board will be celebrating the unique qualities of thinking differently, as a school community.

According to SGDSB, neurodiversity, "is the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many ways; there is no one right way of thinking, learning and behaving and differences are not deficits."

To further clarify this, the board shared that the term neurodiversity refers to the diversity of all people, while often being used in the context of autism spectrum disorder, (ASD) as well as other neurological or developmental conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Tourette’s, Down Syndrome, Trauma, Anxiety, Auditory Processing or other mental health or learning disabilities.

The Board encouraged its students, staff, families and school community to, “pay attention to how we include others, show kindness and understanding, and create schools that are inclusive, and welcoming.” With that in mind, they want to celebrate neurodiversity throughout the month of April, as a Board and as a community.
