GERALDTON — St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School students participated in an engaging lesson using 21st Century learning tools.
The school is learning and exploring how 21st Century learning tools can promote the delivery of the Ontario curriculum, and enhance global competencies for students.
Project lead Ms. Fauvelle, has been working with classroom educators in Grades 1 to 6 to identify specific science and mathematics learning goals and curriculum expectations in order to deliver engaging lessons using 21st Century learning tools.
The Technology Enabled Learning teacher with SNCDSB, has been helping the school team learn how to use these tools and with the planning of lessons.
As part of this project, the team had the opportunity to meet with and learn from Lisa-Anne Floyd who provided them with lessons and guidance involving “Scratch and Makey Makey.” This reflects the fact that the mathematics curriculum goals have focused on new coding expectations and including spatial sense, as students explore the characteristics of 2-D shapes such as angles, sides and vertices.
SNCDSB added that this project will continue throughout the school year and will incorporate learning tools such as, “Squishy Circuits, Dash robotics and Makey Makey”, all of which are part of the Ontario Curriculum.
The board and St Joseph Catholic School, offered their thanks to Fauvelle for spearheading the project and Floyd for sharing her expertise and collaboration.
This project will continue to highlight and promote the learning and use of 21st Century tools by students as they develop their global competencies.
