TERRACE BAY — Students showed their support for safe and inclusive schools during Pink Shirt Day.

As did so many organizations and schools across Canada, Superior North Catholic District School Board showed its support on Wednesday of what Pink Shirt Day represents by encouraging each of its schools, students, and staff to participate, by wearing a “Pink” shirt.

Canadians stood up against bullying and wore a pink shirt to show their support for safe and inclusive schools, workplaces and communities.

Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007, when two students took a stand against bullying after a new student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink. These students brought dozens of pink shirts and distributed them to their classmates to wear the next day.

Superior North Catholic District School Board’s schools, each in their own way recognized and showed their support for Pink Shirt Day and the importance of taking a stand against bullying. The Board proudly thanked their entire school community, their schools and staff for making sure that they all wore a “Pink” shirt to help raise awareness of the importance of this day.

In each school, students remembered the significance of this day, which was to stand up against bullying and of the importance of making schools safe and welcoming for everyone. For example, the colour pink dominated the halls of St. Hilary Catholic Elementary School, while Holy Angels Catholic Elementary School, celebrated their diversity with the theme of: “Lift Each Other Up”. They took the time to talk about how they can be kind to each other and to make “angels of themselves” in doing so.
