GREENSTONE -- The issue of releasing "surplus funds" was a topic of discussion at this week's Superior Greenstone District School Board's trustees meeting.

Surplus funds are accumulated during the school year, particularly around COVID-19.

Director of education Nicole Morden-Cormier explains that the funds will be used to augment programs for students.

"Our trustees approved the use of surplus funds to enhance the sound system and audiovisual equipment in all five of our secondary school gymnasiums," Morden-Cormier said.

"They approved an interactive playground system for three of our elementary schools, it's a pilot project, and the installation of a gender-neutral restroom for students at the Manitouwadge High School."

Morden-Cormier says the total amount of "surplus funds" is $775,000.
