Teen arrested after hurling rock at ATV rider

A 14-year-old Eabametoong First Nation youth faces charges after allegedly throwing a rock at a band security member.

EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION – A youth has been arrested after a rock was thrown at and struck a member of Eabametoong First Nation’s band security, who was riding an all-terrain vehicle at the time of the alleged assault.

According to Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, police were working in the early morning hours on Friday, June 20, when they were called to the scene of a reported assault.

They located a suspect and took the 14-year-old male into custody.

The victim, who was struck by a rock, was taken to the community nursing station for further evaluation and treatment.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, appeared for a bail hearing and was released with conditions and a future court date.

The teen’s identify cannot be published under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
