GREENSTONE – During their Regular Meeting of the Council, the Municipality of Greenstone approved By-Law 22-50, which allows the adoption of estimates of revenues and expenditures for tax-supported projects into the 2022 budget.

According to Greenstone’s council, a 4.24 per cent tax increase will generate $16,342,404 for the municipality.

The overall increase will be to residential taxes, including the education tax. This increase will be reflected on the Final Billing, with payments due July 30, Aug. 31, Sept. 30 and Oct. 29.

Of this tax increase, 3.11 per cent levy is from external sources such as policing, insurance, Emergency Medical Service, Thunder Bay District Social Services, and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

The budget includes approximately $10.4 million in capital expenses using $2,834,795 in tax levy funding. Notably, Capital projects are also funded from almost $5.2 million in grants and developer contributions and $2.35 million from reserves.

The By-Law sets tax ratios for the prescribed property class and subclasses for municipal purposes for 2022, which will be presented at the regular council meeting on June 13, 2022.

The Municipality of Greenstone operates and maintains five water treatment facilities, four wastewater treatment facilities, two federally regulated airports at Geraldton and Nakina, four municipal administration buildings, four public works garages, a marina, five campgrounds, four-sport complexes (community centres), four fire halls, four cemeteries, six Greenspace parks, 22 playgrounds, three daycares, and numerous other municipal and recreation buildings.
