Tractor-trailer collision on Highway 17 claims driver's life

MARATHON — A resident of the Greater Toronto Area is dead after a collision between two tractor-trailer units on Highway 17 early Sunday.

OPP said the incident happened around 1:30 am near Neys Provincial Park.

The deceased, a 37-year-old from Brampton, Ont., was operating one of the trucks.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital by paramedics with what police describe as serious injuries.

Highway 17 was closed for an extended period as a result of the collision.

The OPP North west Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, and OPP technical collision re-constructionists, are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
