NIPIGON -- A traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon has resulted in charges for one Nipigon resident.

According to Ontario Provincial Police release, officers initiated a traffic stop on Tuesday, Aug. 9 just before 6 p.m. on Highway 11/17, in the Township of Nipigon after noting suspicious driving behaviour.

Police say the operator of the motor vehicle had been consuming alcohol.

The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample. The driver provided a sample resulting in a fail reading. The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.

The driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of appearance notice with a Nipigon court date on Sept. 13, to answer to the charges.
