Traffic stop results in impaired driving and drug trafficking charges

Methamphetamine and other items consistent with drug trafficking were seized following a traffic stop.

GERALDTON – A report of a possible impaired driver in Geraldton on Thursday has resulted in charges for a 30-year-old.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers responded to a 911 call, reporting a possible impaired driver on Main Street.

Police located the subject motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The traffic stop led to the arrest of the driver for impaired operation of a conveyance and drug offences.

Police seized a quantity of methamphetamine and other items consistent with the trafficking of drugs.

The drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $2,190.

Kalvin GODIN, 30, of Geraldton has been charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking, operation of a conveyance while impaired,  failure to comply with probation and driving while under suspension.

The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Greenstone OPP Community Street Crimes Unit and the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau.

The accused made a brief court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay, Ontario by video on Feb. 3 to answer to the charges and was remanded into custody.
